Trim from each edge (mm)

Add a PDF and its margins are detected automatically (a 3 mm border is left around the content)

Content outside the cropped area is hidden, not removed — it stays inside the file

How to use

  1. 1

Drag and drop your PDF, or click to choose a file. Margins are detected page by page from the first one, and the area to keep is shown as a frame in the preview.

  2. 2

Check the area. Fine-tune how much is trimmed from each edge in millimeters, or use “Drag to select an area” to draw a frame around the part you want. Then choose the output: keep the cropped size, fit onto paper, or arrange on paper.

  3. 3

Click “Crop PDF” to get the cropped PDF.

Trim PDF margins and whitespace automatically

When you add a PDF, every page is scanned and the white margins are found automatically, keeping the content plus a 3 mm border. Documents with wide margins and scans with blank space around the page can be cropped without drawing anything by hand. The paper color is taken from the most common brightness on the page, so light gray scans work too, and thin shadows along the edges are ignored.

The detected area is shown as the amount trimmed from each edge, in millimeters, and you can change the numbers right there. If no margins are found, you can still set the area with numbers or by dragging.

Crop all pages at once

Same area on all pages (default)

One area that fits the content of every page is used, so all pages are cropped the same way in one go and end up the same size — good for reading straight through and for printing.

Each page separately

Each page's own margins are trimmed. Use this when the content sits in different places on different pages. You can also change the area of a single page by dragging or with the numbers.

Crop a PDF to A4 or Letter, or arrange crops on one sheet

There are three outputs. Keep cropped size (the default) makes each page the size of the cropped area. Fit onto paper centers each cropped area on A4, Letter, A3 or Tabloid (11×17 in) paper, scaled with its aspect ratio kept — wide areas get landscape paper automatically. Arrange on paper places 2, 4, 6 or 9 cropped areas on each sheet, which is handy for putting scanned receipts or figures from a document together on one page.

Keep only the part you need

To keep just a figure or photo rather than trimming margins, click “Drag to select an area” or tap a page in the preview. The page opens large: draw a frame around the part you want and adjust it with the corner handles. It works with a finger on phones too, and you can apply the area to this page only or to all pages.

To turn the cropped part into a JPG or PNG image, convert the resulting PDF with PDF to Image. To take whole pages out of a PDF, use Split PDF.

No upload, free to use

Margin detection and cropping both run in your browser. Your file is never sent to a server, so you can crop documents that shouldn't leave your device. No software to install and no sign-up.

Useful when you want to

  • ✓Remove wide white margins so a PDF is easier to read on a phone or to print
  • ✓Trim the blank border around scanned pages, all pages at once
  • ✓Keep only a chart, figure or photo from a page
  • ✓Print a cropped area large, fitted to A4 or Letter paper
  • ✓Put several scanned receipts together on one sheet

Good to know

  • Content outside the cropped area is hidden, not removed — it stays inside the file. Cropping changes the displayed area of the page (the CropBox), so software that ignores the CropBox may show the whole original page, and hidden text can still turn up when copying or searching.
  • “Fit onto paper” and “Arrange on paper” redraw the pages, so links, annotations and form fields are not kept (they still look the same). “Keep cropped size” keeps them.
  • Automatic detection assumes white (or very light) margins. Colored backgrounds, borders or heavy shadows may not be treated as margins — adjust the area with the numbers or by dragging.
  • “Arrange on paper” leaves a margin of about 7 mm around the sheet and about 3.5 mm between areas.
  • Cropping is not a way to remove sensitive information. To remove confidential content for good, use a redaction feature such as the one in Adobe Acrobat.
